How to Hybrid reString Slap and Sync

The best way to hybrid reString Slap and reString Sync is to put Slap in the mains and Sync in the crosses, with Sync strung 2 lbs lower than Slap.

This setup gives you Slap's spin and dialed-in power, with Sync adding control and feel.

reString Slap is a shaped string that grips the ball, while the round, slick reString Sync helps the mains snap back into place after each shot to generate more spin.

You can now easily try this hybrid setup with our Slap x Sync Hybrid Set.

Why We Recommend Slap in the Mains

Slap is a shaped string that grips the ball as you hit it, which creates spin. Your mains do most of the work in a stringbed, so they are the best place for the string that creates the most spin.

Your crosses have a different job. They need to let the mains slide on contact and snap back into place, which adds even more spin. Sync is round and slick, so Slap slides across it easily.

Both strings also feature our Signature Snapback technology, which reduces friction even further between mains and crosses. This means more spin, for longer.

How Does the Slap x Sync Hybrid Play?

The Slap x Sync hybrid plays mainly with Slap's spin and dialed-in power, with Sync adding control and feel.

Of our three hybrid sets at launch, it sits in the middle, between the power of Zero x Sync and the control of Vivo x Sync.

It was also the most requested hybrid at our New York pop-up, where close to half of the rackets we strung were hybrids.

Slap x Sync suits counter punchers who rely on heavy topspin in long rallies, and aggressive baseliners whose big swings keep landing long.

If you have tried a full bed of Slap but want more control, this is the hybrid to try. Or if you have wanted more power from a full bed of Sync, this setup is for you.

In terms of performance, a simple way to picture it is roughly 70% Slap and 30% Sync.

How Does Slap x Sync Compare to Zero x Sync?

Slap x Sync plays slightly more controlled than Zero x Sync, with the same heavy spin.

Slap is built on Zero's base formula, so it shares the same shape and coating. However, Slap offers a little more control and forgiveness compared to Zero.

Both hybrids use Sync in the crosses, so the difference comes down to the main string.

You can read more about those differences in our guide on how Slap compares to Zero.

Can You Put reString Sync in the Mains?

Yes, you can put reString Sync in the mains.

Both half sets in Slap x Sync are 20 ft (6.1 m), so you can swap them either way.

However, we still recommend the shaped Slap in the mains with the round Sync in the crosses, for the reasons outlined above.

The only real reason to use Sync in the mains is wanting a more controlled setup. If that is what you are after, Vivo x Sync, our most control-leaning hybrid, will suit you better.

I have tried both setups, using the same racket (modified 2013 Baboblat APD GT) and tension (50/48) setup. Both played great and kept their playability longer than what I would normally get (~ 15 hours). While both played solid for my driving two-hander, the ball did land slightly long on my topspin-heavy forehand and kick serve using Zero/Sync. With Slap/Sync, those balls that were landing just long started to land in. Slap/Sync is now my preferred setup.
