ReString Mailbag July 2025

Welcome to our new ReString Mailbag series.

This is where we share real questions from our community along with responses from our team.

Alongside our strings, we believe in providing practical advice to help you make informed decisions about your setup.

This month, we're tackling five questions covering everything from gauge thickness in hybrid setups to tension recommendations for specific rackets.

Let's dive into your questions.

Question 1—Gauge Thickness

Hi, for a hybrid setup (Wilson Blade 100 v8) with Zero in mains and Sync in crosses, does the Zero need to be thicker gauge than the crosses?

Asking as I’ve tried Zero (1.28) in full bed at 53lbs.

If I have Zero (1.23) and Sync (1.25) to try as hybrid with Sync in mains and Zero in crosses. Should the Zero ideally be 1.28 or ok with the above?

If so what tensions for compared to the full bed of zero at 53lbs please. Thanks.

ReString Response

Regarding your hybrid setup with Zero in the mains and Sync in the crosses for your Wilson Blade 100 v8, you absolutely don't need to worry about having the Zero in the 1.23 version.

In fact, I'd say that having a similar gauge across both strings is generally better, so a 1.23 and 1.25 combination would be a great fit for a hybrid setup.

In terms of tension recommendations, if you enjoy 53 lbs in a full bed of Zero, I would suggest keeping the Zero (mains) at 53 lbs and stringing the Sync (crosses) at 51 lbs.

This small tension differential will give the mains a little more wiggle room, which in turn should provide more string movement for enhanced spin potential and pocketing.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Question 2—Hurting Arm

Hi Restring,

I usually use a multifilament string since polys have hurt my arm. I use the Head Prestige limited edition 2.0 and string multifilaments at about 58 lbs.

Any recommendations? I'd like to find a poly that doesn't hurt my arm.

Thanks!

ReString Response

I understand your concern about switching from multifilament to polyester strings, especially given your arm history.

It's true that a full bed of poly will feel different compared to a full bed of multi, but it might be worth trying to see how your arm responds.

You'll likely experience significantly more access to spin and explosiveness with poly, but it's also inevitable that the stringbed will feel firmer and potentially more jarring on your arm.

To help mitigate this, I have two setups I'd recommend for you:

1—Full Bed of Poly: I suggest trying a full bed of either Zero or Sync at around 52 lbs.

The lower tension should help to soften the stringbed while still providing you with excellent control and spin.

Don't worry too much about the difference between your current 58 lbs and the recommended 52 lbs.

The materials of the strings play a significant role, and 58 lbs in a full bed of poly would indeed be very harsh on the arm, even for advanced professional players.

52 is a perfect starting point for a full bed of poly.

2—Hybrid Setup: If you find the full bed of poly a bit too stiff, a hybrid setup could be a great option.

I'd recommend using Sync in the mains and your multifilament of choice in the crosses.

This approach offers the best of both worlds: the control and spin from the slick poly mains, combined with the added comfort of your multi in the crosses.

In this case, I'd suggest stringing both the Sync in the mains and your multi in the crosses at 52 lbs.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Question 3—Nordicdots Model 100 Tension

I received my Limited Custom Box (Restring Zero and Sync) last month, and I recently purchased the Nordicdots 100 racquet.

Could you please recommend the appropriate tension for this racquet?

ReString Response

It's great to hear you're enjoying your Custom Box, and the Nordicdots 100 is an excellent choice of racquet.

Regarding tension recommendations, I'd first suggest going with a tension that you typically use for a full bed of polyester strings.

This approach will allow you to make the most direct comparison to your usual setup and then you can adjust from there.

However, if you're looking for my personal recommendation for the Nordicdots, I would suggest stringing the mains at 52 lbs and the crosses at 50 lbs.

I would definitely advise placing the shaped string (Zero) in the mains for enhanced bite and the round string (Sync) in the crosses for really slick snapback.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Question 4—Yonex Percept 97H Tension

I'm currently playing with Yonex Percept 97h I have it strong with Solinco Confidential 18G at 55 lbs I bought a couple of packages of ReString Sync 18G I'm not sure what tension to go with.

I'm not sure if your string is stiffer or softer than Confidential I was thinking to lower the tension to 50 lbs I've also played with Tour by 18 gauge at 55 lbs any input will be helpful thank you.

ReString Response

Thank you for reaching out, and we're thrilled you're trying our new string!

Given that you enjoy playing with Confidential at 55 lbs, I would recommend trying the Sync 18G at around 54 or 53 lbs.

Sync has a similar stiffness, so it should feel about the same in terms of comfort at that tension.

The benefit of going slightly lower to 54 or 53 is that you'll get added pop, pocketing, and spin potential, which is always welcome.

Hope this helps!

Question 5—Zero Hybrid Tension

Hello. I have a brief question regarding recommended tension for Restring Zero 1.28mm that I purchased.

I noticed on your FAQ that the recommended tension for your products is between 45-55lbs.

I intend to use the Restring Zero in a hybrid setup as a slippery cross string with high bite strings such as Hyper-G, Wasabi, Gamechanger as the mains, to try to get a maximum spin setup.

Is there a more specific tension you would recommend or have had good player feedback on with Zero? Are there any tensions to avoid, where Zero does not play or feel well?

Any other considerations I should take into account, such as stringing it higher or lower than my usual tension, or stringing it higher or lower than the mains?

For context I currently play with racquets at 48 lbs, and 50 lbs, but am open to changes as needed.

Any information or feedback would be useful, I look forward to giving these strings a try!

ReString Response

Thanks for your email and for your great question!

Excited to have you test out Zero in the crosses to a poly of your choice in the mains.

I would say that Zero does work really well at the tensions you usually string at (48 to 50lbs) so no real need to try anything too different.

If I were to give a suggestion, I could suggest that you drop the tension of your crosses slightly relative to the mains to create a little more wiggle room for the mains to snap back.

If you have a Main string with excellent snapback quality, the extra space to move in the crosses will really give you that extra boost in power and spin.

For example, 50 lbs in the mains and 48 lbs in the crosses would give you just a little extra pop (which feels great) than going 50 / 50 lbs in both directions.

As mentioned, the main reason behind this is the extra space you get for the mains to move freely which will create better pocketing and pop.

That being said, if you have a main string that does not interact well with a slick cross (thinking out loud but maybe something like a Luxilon 4G), you won't really be able to benefit from this tension differential.

Of the 3 strings you mentioned, I would say Wasabi would have the best snapback (Hyper G is great but the coating will die a little faster).

I would really also recommend a full bed of Zero with 50 in the mains and 48 in the crosses - this is a tried and tested set up which works really well for our players.

The interaction of the slick mains and slick crosses works really nicely so I'll guarantee you some great pop if you go with this set up!

Hope this helps!
