Expert Guide to ReString Vivo and Luxilon Eco Power

Both Vivo and Eco Power are hexagonal polyester strings made from recycled materials.

They share a similar profile and target the same type of player. Both appeal to sustainability-conscious, control-oriented competitors who can generate their own pace.

Luxilon was first to market with Eco Power, paving the way for sustainable strings in tennis. Vivo followed with a focus on improving tension maintenance and doubling down on control and spin.

This article breaks down the performance characteristics of both strings and helps you choose the right one for your game.

ReString Vivo Overview

Vivo is a hexagonal string made from recycled polyester. It represents what ReString set out to achieve from day one, which is performance without compromising sustainability.

The development process took over three years because creating a recycled string that performs at a high level presented unique challenges. Many early recycled strings sacrificed playability for eco credentials, but Vivo was built to compete with premium non-recycled options.

The six-sided shape provides bite on the ball for spin and control. This aggressive profile grips the ball at contact, allowing you to generate heavy rotation without forcing your swing.

Vivo delivers a crisp, clean impact that keeps you connected to the ball. Unlike many eco strings that feel muted or dead at impact, Vivo provides clear feedback on every shot. You feel exactly where the ball lands on the stringbed, which translates to confident and precise shots.

The string is suited for players who prioritize control. The response is firm but not harsh, giving you the directness you need to place the ball without the stiffness that leads to arm discomfort.

One of Vivo's standout characteristics is its excellent tension maintenance. In fact, it received a perfect score of 100/100 for tension maintenance from Racketpedia. This means the string plays consistently session after session, maintaining the same feel and response over time.

Vivo is made from recycled polyester material and sustainably packaged in FSC-certified recycled paper. It is available in 17G (1.23mm) and 16G (1.28mm) gauges.

Luxilon Eco Power Overview

Eco Power launched in 2023 as the first polyester string made from 100% recycled materials.

Luxilon pioneered the eco string category, showing the market that sustainable options were possible. This helped shift perceptions around what recycled tennis strings could achieve.

The string delivers a firm, controlled response suited to players who generate their own power. Similar to Vivo, the hexagonal shape provides grip for spin production.

Feel is often described as more muted compared to Luxilon's flagship strings like ALU Power. Players accustomed to the lively response of traditional Luxilon offerings may notice a less connected sensation at impact.

Tension maintenance has been one of the most common criticisms in player feedback, including Tennisnerd's review. The notching common to shaped strings contributes to this decline, and without advanced coating technology, the string can lose its fresh feel relatively quickly.

Eco Power is only available in 17G (1.25mm). It is also part of a larger Luxilon Eco series that includes Eco Rough and Eco Spin variants.

Which String Should You Choose?

Choose Vivo if you want excellent control, spin, and tension maintenance in an eco-friendly package.

Where many sustainable strings fall short on feel and longevity, Vivo treats these as priorities. You get the crisp feedback and lasting playability you expect from a premium polyester, all while using recycled materials.

Choose Eco Power if you want a bit more power and prefer a legacy brand that offers a sustainable option.

Luxilon deserves a lot of credit for proving that recycled strings could exist at the professional level. However, we believe Vivo has built on those foundations to create an industry-leading eco-option for performance players.
