ReString Zero vs Slap Comparison

Zero and Slap are built off the same DNA.

They share the same hexagonal shape, the same Signature Snapback coating, the same launch angles, and the same core characteristics of spin, power, and snapback.

The difference is in how they deliver those characteristics. Zero is the all-out version. Slap is the more composed version.

This article breaks down both strings side-by-side so you can decide which one fits your game.

ReString Zero

Characteristics

Zero is ReString's flagship co-polyester and the benchmark for power and spin in our lineup.

The hexagonal shape grips the ball aggressively on every stroke, generating massive spin potential and allowing you to create sharp angles that push your opponents around the court.

The Signature Snapback coating reduces friction between the mains and crosses, so the strings slide and snap back into position quickly for consistent spin output throughout your session.

Zero's response is lively and explosive. When you accelerate through contact, the ball jumps off the stringbed with pace. This is a string that adds lots of energy to your shots.

Power and spin are not Zero's only strengths. We engineered Zero to maintain superior tension for longer periods, addressing a common frustration with traditional polyester strings.

Zero's position as the gold standard for power and spin is not just something we say.

The feedback from players, stringers, and reviewers like TennCom has consistently pointed to Zero as one of the highest-performing spin strings on the market.

Playing Style

Zero is the perfect match for players who thrive on aggressive baseline play.

If you love to dictate points with heavy pace and spin, or find yourself frequently overpowering opponents from the back of the court, Zero will enhance your natural playing style.

Baseliners or big servers who win with height, shape, and heavy ball will get the most out of the hexagonal bite and snapback combination.

WTA pro Cristina Bucsa uses Zero in her hybrid setup and won her first WTA 500 tournament with the string in 2025.

Availability

Zero comes in two gauges: 17G (1.23mm) and 16G (1.28mm).

You can purchase Zero as a single 12.2m set, a bundle of five 12.2m sets, or a 200m reel.

ReString Slap

Characteristics

Slap is built off a similar base formula to Zero. The shape is the same, the coating is the same, and the bite on the ball is the same. Where it differs is in the response.

Slap plays a touch softer and more controlled than Zero.

The feel at contact is more plush, and the power output is dialed back slightly. You still get an aggressive, spin-friendly polyester, but the ball stays on a tighter leash.

On off-center contact, Slap is more forgiving. Mishits maintain better depth and consistency compared to Zero, giving you confidence to commit to your shots even when you don't catch the ball cleanly.

The snapback performance is the same as Zero. The string-to-string movement and the spin generation from the hexagonal shape are unchanged.

Playing Style

Slap sits between Zero and Sync on the ReString spectrum. It is closer to Zero than to Sync because it is built off Zero's formula, but it borrows a touch of Sync's control and comfort.

Three types of players should consider Slap.

Players who have tried Zero and found it too lively. If the ball occasionally flies on you, Slap brings that energy under control without changing the fundamental character of the string.

Aggressive baseliners who already generate significant pace naturally. If you are already ripping the ball and Zero adds too much power on top of what you produce, Slap complements your game without pushing you past the point of control.

Sync players who want more power without going all the way to Zero. Slap gives you a step up in spin and aggression while keeping a level of control and softness that Zero does not offer.

Availability

Slap comes in two gauges: 17G (1.23mm) and 16G (1.28mm).

You can purchase Slap as a single 12.2m set, a bundle of five 12.2m sets, or a 200m reel.

Summary

Zero and Slap share more than they differ. The shape, the coating, the snapback, the launch angle, and the bite on the ball are all the same.

The choice comes down to how much power you want from your stringbed.

If you want maximum explosiveness and you can handle a lively response, Zero is for you. If you want that same DNA with a touch more control and a softer feel, Slap is the string for you.
