ReString Mailbag May 2026

We're back for another mailbag, where we answer real questions from customers.

This month, we will cover ReString Slap vs ReString Zero in Yonex EZONE 98, ReString Zero and Slap hybrid setup, how ReString Slap plays in Babolat Aero 98, tension advice for Wilson Pro Staff 97 V14, and how ReString Sync and Head Hawk Touch tensions compare.

Question 1 - ReString Slap vs ReString Zero

Restring Slap or Restring Zero on Yonex EZONE 98?

ReString Response

Good question! It really depends on what you are looking to optimize for.

ReString Zero gives you the most power and spin. If you are looking to supercharge those elements, ReString Zero is the best option for your Ezone 98.

However, if you still want great spin but a little less power, ReString Slap is the better choice.

I think a great place to start would be with ReString Zero since it’s our flagship product. If you like it but want something a touch more controlled, ReString Slap is the way to go.

Followup Question

Would ReString Slap provide better comfort than ReString Zero?

I am currently using Yonex EZONE 98 with Solinco Hyper-G at 52 lbs.

Followup Response

Yes! ReString Slap will be a touch softer than ReString Zero.

Since you’re currently using Solinco Hyper-G at 52 lbs in your Ezone 98, SLAP will be a touch softer and controlled, while still maintaining good spin.

ReString Zero will offer more explosive power and a slightly higher launch angle.

Followup Question

Wow that sounds amazing!

I have a Babolat Pure Aero 98 2026 and i was wondering how it plays on ReString Slap as well.

Followup Response

ReString Slap plays great in the Pure Aero 98!

Since that racquet is naturally powerful and spin-friendly, ReString Slap provides added control and a slightly plusher feel compared to other polys.

ReString Zero is a good choice too but could be a bit too much on that power side. Plus, ReString Slap would look incredible in that new grey-ish colorway of the Babolat Pure Aero.

Question 2 - ReString Zero and Slap Hybrid

Has there been any analysis of hybrid with ReString Zero and ReString Slap?

ReString Response

ReString Slap was recently released and shares a similar DNA to ReString Zero, but with added control and a bit more softness.

If you felt like ReString Zero was a little too lively or powerful, ReString Slap is a great option.

In terms of hybrids, we have seen many players using ReString Zero mains with ReString Sync crosses. This provides an excellent balance of power, control, and spin.

The Zero mains offer power and bite, while the slick, round Sync crosses provide great snapback, enhancing string movement, feel, and spin.

Since it is usually best to hybrid a shaped string in the mains with a smooth string in the crosses, we are also seeing more ReString Slap mains with ReString Sync crosses.

This offers a similar feel to the setup above but with an overall more controlled and softer stringbed due to the characteristics of ReString Slap.

If you choose to hybrid ReString Zero and ReString Slap, it would definitely work well given they are similar strings.

To optimize your setup, you should place your preferred string in the mains: choose ReString Zero for more power or ReString Slap for more control.

The main strings dictate about 70% of the stringbed's feel since they are longer and have a more direct impact on the ball.

Either way, this combination will give you a ton of bite and spin on the ball and would be a good balance between the two.

Question 3 - ReString Slap in Babolat Aero 98

I just bought a set of ReString Slap. I want to put this in my Babolat Aero 98.

What do you recommend? Either a full bed or a hybrid with ReString Sync in the crosses?

Can you also advise the best tension?

ReString Response

Whether you go with a full bed of ReString Slap or a hybrid with ReString Sync in the crosses really comes down to what you’re looking for out of the setup.

A full bed of ReString Slap will give you the most liveliness, spin, and overall feel, with a slightly higher launch and easier access to depth.

It’s a great option if you want to open up the response of the racket and get that “whippy,” spin-friendly feel.

On the other hand, going ReString Slap mains with ReString Sync crosses will bring things a bit more under control. You’ll still get the spin and pop from ReString Slap, but ReString Sync will add stability and consistency, which is often wanted in a powerful frame like the Babolat Aero 98.

In terms of tension, a great starting point would be around 48-50 lbs.

If you go full ReString Slap, you could stay in that range or even slightly higher for more control. If you choose the hybrid, you can keep it similar to maintain a nice balance of feel and control.

If you have a current setup you’re coming from, feel free to share it and we can fine-tune the recommendation even more. Always happy to help you dial it in!

Question 4 - Tension in Wilson Pro Staff 97 V14

I wanted to ask if you would recommend stringing at 54 lbs in the mains and 50 lbs in the crosses on my Wilson Pro Staff 97 V14.

I’ve read it would enlarge the sweet spot and give better feel. I strung it at 52 pounds full bed and it felt good but a little on the stiff.

ReString Response

Great question, and you’re definitely thinking about the right adjustments.

With the Wilson Pro Staff 97 V14, if 52 lbs full bed already felt a bit stiff, I wouldn’t recommend going up to 54 lbs in the mains. Higher tension will make the stringbed firmer, not softer.

If you’re looking for more comfort, feel, and a slightly bigger sweet spot, you’ll want to go lower in tension. Something like 50/48 or even 50/46 (mains/crosses) would soften the response.

Question 5 - ReString Sync and Head Hawk Touch Tension

Hello, just wondering what tension would feel similar to Head Hawk Touch 1.30 at 58 lbs for ReString Sync 1.30. I want it to feel as firm and stiff but longer playability due to ReString Sync.

ReString Response

The safest place to start would be at the same tension. Since both are round strings that focus on feel, you will find some similarities there.

ReString Sync will provide the extended playability you are looking for.

You can start with stringing ReString Sync at 58 lbs if you want the most like-for-like comparison. However, because our strings are designed to perform at lower tensions, I would also suggest trying a lower tension like 54 lbs.

This allows you to get the maximum benefit of our Signature Snapback technology, which offers excellent spin potential not found in the Head string.

Our strings are designed for movement, so lower tensions help facilitate that.
