ReString Mailbag November 2025

We're back for another mailbag, where we answer real questions from customers.

This month, we will cover the right tension for a specific customer’s Zero and Sync hybrid setup, what you can use the duffle bag for, a Babolat Pure Aero ReString setup and whether Zero or Vivo works in the mains for a customer who wants control and a bit of power.

Question 1 - Zero and Sync Hybrid Setup Tension

I currently play Hyper G 18G mains with a TNT2 React Pro 16G cross. Both at 60 lbs. (I've tried less tension and can't control it.) I'm a 4.0-4.5 with a strong serve and forehand.

I recently bought Restring Zero and Sync to try a hybrid setup of Zero mains and Sync cross. Should I drop the tension in the Sync crosses and if so by how much? Thank you for your advice.

ReString Response

Thanks for reaching out!

It sounds like you're currently using a thin gauge shaped poly main with a synthetic gut cross. Since synthetic gut is inherently softer and more elastic, stringing both at 60 lbs causes the crosses to lose tension quicker than your current mains due to the natural tension loss of the different materials.

Moving to a Zero x Sync hybrid, you'll be working with two co-polys. Both are made from the same material and will therefore have a more comparable tension loss over time. Because of that, I would definitely recommend having the mains strung 2 lbs above the crosses.

Given that you like higher tensions, I would recommend 56 lbs in the mains and 54 lbs in the crosses. Although this is lower than your current setup, it makes sense to drop the tension because you're switching from a poly/synthetic gut hybrid to an all-poly hybrid. Any poly bed will naturally be more control-oriented and stiffer, so the lower tension is a good starting point.

Another point worth mentioning is that our strings are really designed for string movement to bring out the most out of the string bed through the signature snapback coating that we've incorporated into both Zero and Sync.

The lower tension really helps this aspect shine - you will definitely feel much more spin potential with this set up at 56 / 54 than with your previous stringbed.

Let us know how that feels and hope the advice helps! Happy to assist you further if needed.

Question 2 - Duffle Bag Pockets

Just got my order for the duffle bag and Zero reel!

I had a quick question about the duffle bag. I see on top it includes a slide in pocket. What was this designed to be used for/items(s) to store in? Love the bag by the way! Thanks!

ReString Response

Thank you for your order! We're glad you love the duffle bag.

The top slide-in pocket is quite versatile so you can use it in any way that's convenient for you!

We find that a lot of people like putting their dirty tennis clothes in there after a session to not have those clothes mix with the rest of the bag. Same goes for towels and other accessories that you'd like to physically separate from the main inside compartment.

You could also slide in loose balls (to not have the felt of the ball rub off on your clean clothes) or our stencil (in case you bring that on court and don't want any residual ink to rub off anywhere). I just wouldn't put any of your key valuables in there since there is no zipper

Looking forward to having you enjoy your tennis with our bag!

Question 3 - Babolat Pure Aero Setup

Hi I have a question. I'm 188cm and I have the Babolat Pure Aero 2019 (a bit older) and I want big power but also the best control I can get.

Would you help me choose the right strings and string setup?

ReString Response

Thanks so much for reaching out, we'd be happy to help!

The most powerful string in our portfolio is Zero, and the most control oriented is going to be Sync. What we would recommend is to test out a hyrbid between the two, using Zero in the mains with Sync in the crosses, our most popular hybrd!

This gives you a really nice balance of the two. Most importantly they both have really good tension maintenance and snapback, which will allow for a more consistent stringbed.

Hope this helps!! Always happy to talk more set ups if you have any more questions

Question 4 - Zero or Vivo in the Mains

I like things like Poly Tour Pro, 4g Soft, Toroline Caviar with their Enso Pro.

Sync for cross for sure, but some doubts between Vivo and Zero. I like control and need some power, but not too much.

ReString Response

Got it! Let me help you with a few of those!

If you are into those slippery strings like Caviar and Enso pro, I think you'll definitely love Sync. We use our signature snapback coating and it's a string that's really designed for touch and feel in a nice round shape. Super popular not just as a cross for us but also in a full bed for those seeking a nice consistent stringbed

If you want to to add a little more power but you want to keep the stringbed on the more consistent side, would really recommend a hybrid option with Sync in the cross.

Zero in the mains gives you more pop, power and spin thanks to the string's design and hexagonal profile, while Sync in the cross really helps tame those mains to create a really nice combo. That would be my top rec for you!

Another option would be to try Vivo in the mains with Sync in the cross. This is a perfect alternative if you find the Zero x Sync still a little too much on the power side.

The Vivo mains makes the stringbed even more control and feel oriented while still giving you good access to spin thorough the bite you get from those hexagonal mains.

Have a feeling Zero in a full bed might be too much power for you although you could give that a try. Vivo in a full bed might be my personal favorite although this does lean towards a very control oriented set up.

We find that players who enjoy more "dead" feeling polys love this set up in a full bed. Gives you so much feel and control but the trade off is that you have to be able to generate your own power and spin since you don't get so much of it for “free” as you might with Zero.

A lot of high level players on the college circuit and beyond have been loving the zero in a full bed.
